Open and Clean Government

As a supper club owner, I know that I can serve my customers well only if I listen to them and observe how they are treated by my employees.  That is why you can see me walking among the dining tables every night.  Similarly, during my two terms as Mayor of Tomah I have made my accessibility and the openness of city government high priorities.  Unfortunately, customer service is not a priority for many people running Wisconsin’s state government.  Government cannot serve the people when government becomes a private club that bars their input and oversight.

As your State Senator, I pledge to work hard for the common interest of Wisconsinites and to serve the needs of my constituents.  I will keep you fully informed of my activities, and I will maintain open communication between me and the people I serve.  The failure of the state government to decrease taxes and spending during our economic crisis is a result of arrogance, corruption, and the misuse of government power.  We all need to balance our family and business budgets — cutting back on expenses in lean years and saving up in fat years.  Why does the state government always try to spend more and tax more, no matter how much we are struggling?  Because they are spending our money — not their own!  As an outsider, independent of the special interests, I pledge to help clean up the mess in Madison.
