Common Sense and Independence

I still remember the hours I spent in the basement of my father’s small grocery store in Elroy cleaning eggs.  I was just nine years old, and I could hardly stand cleaning all those eggs!  But, I understood that even the youngest members of my family had to pitch in to make ends meet.  Throughout my life, I have worked hard as both an employee and an employer.  As an employee, I have done manual labor that tested my strength, and I have been a member of several labor unions.  As an employer, I have met a payroll and managed a business budget.  I am no big time Charlie, and I am no career politician.  I am a common man with common sense.

As your State Senator, I pledge to advance common sense in Wisconsin state government.  I pledge to remind the people running state government that they work for us, not us for them. I have proven my independence as a third party candidate for Governor and in my two terms as a nonpartisan Mayor.  As your State Senator, I pledge to challenge the politicians in Madison — Democrats and Republicans — whenever they seek to impose an expensive government boondoggle, sacrifice our liberty to increase state government’s power, or put special interests above the interests of the people of Wisconsin.  I also pledge to work with people of any party or political viewpoint when they are promoting an improvement in state government.
